Main idioms of the workshop are English, Portuguese and Spanish
We will develop an octagon shaped full frame throughout 6 days divided in two weekends.
We will be focusing on how to frame walls, window and door frames as well as corner details. On the last day we will start the roof framing as well.
At the stage will be finalising the roof framing and raising the frame on the site
We will be framing the whole structure inside a warehouse, so the weather will not be an issue. The warehouse is located on a farm just outside of Aljezur.
On the last day, 17th of November, we will transport and raise the structure on the definite site not too far just south of Aljezur.

For the past 16 years, Ruka has been passionately cultivating many skills and taking part in a diversity of professional building & restoration projects. Working mostly with timber, earth/clay, lime, straw.
Therefore he has developed a very personal approach to the natural building crafts. Every building project presents unique challenges, Ruka draws from the vernacular knowledge the base framework for his approach. By integrating different techniques and methods the main aim is to make beautiful buildings that are healthy, functional and long lasting
Timber Framing and wood working in general has come into Ruka´s path as a natural extension of his skills opening up extraordinary possibilities of design flexibility & craftsmanship.
He feels very honoured to have learned first hand from extraordinary masters and he´s fully dedicated to share his knowledge and passion.
His work has been positively influenced by collaborations with variety of craftsman from a multitude of backgrounds.
Among the people with whom he as worked and learned Timber Framing and Natural Building from, Steve Chappell and the Fox Maple crew have been an incredible inspiration, source of knowledge and experience, that one can only look up too.He has worked in the US, Costa Rica, Australia and Portugal mainly.
Ruka is a seasoned instructor, having facilitated a number of successful and fulfilling workshops with a variety of groups, from young children to adults from various cultural backgrounds and nationalities.
For him teaching its an intense and very rewarding process since he feels that he learns at least as much as any participant and feels compelled to share and receive.
Away from the tools and job sites, he spends most of his time just above and under water, enjoying his family and Nature or being mesmerised by music.
